Three 2024 Game Releases I Can't Wait For

Join James from Games with Jon and James as he shares his personal top three games for 2024!

Coming off 2023, one of the best years in gaming history, my expectations for 2024 are at an all time high. From all the gaming showcases, the highly anticipated releases we already know about, along with the surprises that keep coming (I’m looking at you Nintendo with an amazing surprise of Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age) the gaming industry as a whole has decided to not take their foot off the gas in 2024 and we as gamers will have another stellar year feasting on multiple amazing titles across all genres of gaming.

With that being said, here are three titles coming out in 2024 that I cannot wait to sink my teeth into while getting lost in their amazing worlds!

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Developer: Square Enix

Publisher: Square Enix

Platforms: PlayStation 5

Release Date: February 29

I would be remiss if I didn’t say this was my MOST anticipated game coming out this year. Square Enix shocked the world on April 10, 2020, with the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and it delivered in spades. That game was my personal game of the year in 2020 and it reunited us with some of our favorite characters, added to and retold one of the most amazing stories in gaming history, and just delivered on all fronts for such an amazing experience.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is taking all of that and amping it up even more. We get to experience more of Zach’s story, enjoy that AMAZING combat system that the previous chapter introduced us to, and the world looks beyond breathtaking for us to get lost for hours in. This game is poised to take the franchise to new heights, and I am so stoked that I don’t have to wait any longer to continue my journey.

If you are a fan of grand adventure and amazing combat and this isn’t on your radar yet, you can view the official trailer here, and I hope you are ready to dive into this amazing game just like me!

Unicorn Overlord

Developer: Vanillaware

Publisher: Atlus

Platforms: PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Release Date: March 8

Vanillaware burst onto the scene back in 2007 with the release of Odin Sphere for the PlayStation 2, and ever since then, their unique art style, beautiful hand drawn visuals, and sublime gameplay have wowed us for almost two decades. Be it 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, or Muramasa: The Demon Blade, when they announce a game, I am always a day-one buyer, and Unicorn Overlord will be no different.

Vanillaware’s latest game is a tactical RPG that features stunning turn-based combat along with fantastic overworld exploration that is sure to keep us glued to our controller for hours upon hours. You will be creating your own grand army with more than 60 unique characters ranging from humans all the way to massive beasts as you do your best to help Alain, a fallen prince, attempt to reclaim his kingdom and lead his people to freedom in a war-torn world.

The official trailer is here, just in case you need a little more reason to grab this latest title from Vanillaware!

Granblue Fantasy: Relink

Developer: Cygames

Publisher: Cygames

Platforms: PlayStation 4/5, PC

Release Date: February 1

When it comes to the expression “Good things come to those who wait” Granblue Fantasy: Relink takes the cake. Initally announced as Granblue Fantasy Project Re: Link in August 2016, we were supposed to get a game developed as a collaboration between PlatinumGames and Cygames that took the action-RPGs to new heights. Unfortunately, delay after delay happened and by 2019 PlatinumGames left the project leaving it completely up in the air whether this game would ever be released. Fast forward to 2023, and not only did we finally get to see gameplay footage of this project, we also got a 2024 release date!

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a party-based action RPG that lets you not only enjoy the game solo, but it also has optional multiplayer content (online co-op gamelplay with up to four players). And if that wasn’t enough, once you complete the main story, there is a massive amount of additional endgame content! The beautiful visuals, dynamic combat, and massive bosses will have you feeling like you are back in Shadow of the Colossus, this game will deliver on all fronts.

Of all the titles on my list, this one I feel will be the most rewarding as you can already tell that Cygames didn’t give up and release a half-baked turd. They really put their heart and soul into this game and if you need a little more convincing still, you can view the trailer here!

2024 is shaping up to be another landmark year in gaming and pick up right where 2023 left off. There are countless other titles I wish I could have listed but I will save those for another article and another day.

What game are you most looking forward to?
